This is the same pattern my one of my golden stonefly jigs, with a CDC collar rather than rubber legs and a dark brown thorax. CDC moves beautifully underwater and can entice even highly educated trout. This makes a perfect anchor fly in larger sizes, as well as a productive dropper/tandem nymph in smaller ones. This fly features a tail of goose biots, a buggy dubbing abdomen, gold wire ribbing, and a CDC Collar.
I tie this fly on a barbless, black-nickel finish jig hook for a fly that will increase hook-ups and ride point up to reduce snags. These hooks also reduce stress on the fish as they are significantly easier to remove. Sizes #8-16 will have lead free wire on the underbody, #18-#20 will not.
