4 - Sparkle Emerger - Caddis Pupa. Trout Flies. Colorado Fishing. Fly Fishing Flies. Caddis Flies. Emergers.
$13.00
This is a version of Gary Lafontaine's Sparkle Emerger. He spent 3 years studying and watching caddis hatches underwater. After this period, Lafontaine came up with this emerger and deep sparkle pupa pattern.
These flies have been around since the 70's and have an almost mythical status in the fly fishing community. Lafontaine noticed that when pupa start to emerge toward the adult phase, they float upward in the water column with the aid of a gas bubble. He concluded that this is one of the factors that fish key in on when gorging on pupae during a hatch. The body of this fly has a bubble shape of Antron fibers around it - Antron has the unique property of trapping air, and this creates air bubbles in between the main, dubbed body, and the Antron body. Pretty cool stuff. It is finished with a natural deer hair wing and brown dubbing.
This is what you tie on when there are some adult caddis visible, and the fish still seem to be focusing on the film. Fish this from the film and down a bit into the water column if necessary.
This is tied in sizes #10-#18 on barbed, down eye dry fly hooks. I can tie this in green, tan, cream or olive. This listing is for 4 flies.Message me with any questions or custom orders.
